At its meeting today, the Federal Communications Commission voted 5-0 in favor of requiring public safety organizations to use Long Term Evolution networks for their future communications systems. The FCC hopes that emergency services will be able to make use of voice, data and video services via LTE to enhance first responders’ knowledge of emergency situations before they arrive. The FCC is seeking comments on what types of equipment should be used, what sort of coverage should be required, and how it should be protected via services such as encryption. (follow link to read)
