Mobile Google News Becomes Location Aware Friday, May 13, 2011

Google today announced that the mobile version of Google News has become location aware and will now display “news near you” on select smartphones. The feature is opt-in, and dials in user location information to seek out and provide news relevant to that user’s locale. Google says it carefully combs news stories for local details to best match the results with a user’s location. The feature is available to iPhone and Android users, and can be turned on/off at any time.
