Nvidia today revealed the Tegra 3, a new ARM Cortex A9 mobile processor for smartphones and tablets that runs four cores. Nvidia claims the Tegra 3 improves upon the Tegra 2 with three times the graphics performance while using 61% less energy. Nvidia says this lets the Tegra 3 play HD video for 12 hours. The Tegra 3 is manufactured using a 40nm process and includes Variable Symmetric Multiprocessing (vSMP). The four main cores handle all the power-intensive requests, and are joined by a smaller companion core that is relegated to handling low-power tasks
